Worst Western Movie Song Ever

The ridiculous ballad that opened, closed, and explained various scenes within this movie was absolutely the worst western movie song, ever. Even worse that "OK Corral" and "Shalako". Any candidates for more egregious western movie songs?

The song is sooo bad, it's entertaining- both from the outlandishly goofy lyrics and the "lounge act from hell" singing by Ed Ames!

Oh, you have got to see a movie from 1951 called "Slaughter Trail".

The song, 'Hoofbeat Serenade' pervades the whole movie, telling the whole plot right from the beginning credits to the ending. It takes the concept of opening, closing and explaining scenes to the extreme. There is a verse explaining each and every scene in the movie.

The chorus, which is repeated about 50 times or more throughout the movie, goes:

"You could only hear the sound
Of the hoofbeats on the ground
And the wheels as they went 'round
On Slaughter trail."

So how do I remember that? Well, if you ever see the movie you will find that the song, especially the chorus, just sticks in you mind.....forever.....whether you like the song or not.

Personally, I find it fun and catchy. But an Academy Award winner it ain't!

The movie is 6. I deducted a point from my eating because of the horrible musical narrative. 5 it is

In an era of ridiculous western film songs, the one in this film is right up there among the very worst. Singing dramatic narrative was among the worst ideas ever trotted out in film. Fortunately the era was fairly short-lived. But it helped ruin some otherwise decent films, such as this one. In more recent times, however, Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head seriously tarnishes Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

It really is bad, isn't it? Almost Ed Wood bad.

The recurring bad song was aped in an old Doctor Who episode set in the wild west.

It's that man again!!

Prismark10, you don't mean THIS recurring bad song, do you? It would be astonishing for anyone else to use it even as a parody. I mean, how many people eve saw this movie? I agree that it was not too bad a film, but I think it only has achieved cult status and largely because of the odd casting of Marlene Deitrich and the "Chuck-a-luck" song.

Yeah, "North to Alaska." The movie's a very entertaining Western, but that song is pretty hokey and dubious, to say the least.

You guys are nuts, the song is fabulous. The movie is super stylized and pretty campy so the song fits like a glove.
