I know that this has been done to death and remakes are normally terrible, but I thought of this for a little fun. If you can think of a better cast or production team then let me know.
A Jerry Brukheimer Production,
Directed by Gore Verbinski,(Both from Pirates of the Caribbean)
Music by Klaus Badelt or Hans Zimmer (Also from Pirates)
Jude Law: Rudolf Rassendyl/ Rudolf V of Ruritania
Rufus Sewell: Black Michael (Only because I liked him in the Illusionist and I can't help but seeing a slight resemblance between him and Law)
Christian Bale: Rupert of Hentzau (Although he is brilliant I'm not sure I can see him playing the young and reckless type that rupert was but I may be wrong, and I can't think of anyone else)
Scarlett Johannson: Princess Flavia (Because she has the typical fairy tale princess features i.e. blonde hair, blue eyes and light skin)
Okay, I'm not that clued up about many actors and actresses, butI am awfully fond of this book, so I'll give it a bash. I have never seen any of the Zenda films yet.
Music by James Horner (He did a great job on Zorro, which is also of a swashbuckling type)
Gerard Butler: Rudolf Rassendyl/ Rudolf V of Ruritania
Anthony Hopkins: Col. Sapt
Daniel Lapaine: Rupert of Hentzau (I saw him in "Death on the Nile"and it struck me then that he would make a PERFECT Rupert!)
Gerard Butler, interesting. I didn't even consider him. He might even make a good Rupert in my opinion, but he's now a leading man and possibly past that sorta part. Although, he did do Lara croft 2 as a semi villian and his performance in The Phantom of the Opera was very good. Note that I think that a film version should be as true to the book as possible.
Yeah, it was his performance in the "Phantom" that caught me. And I agree, he might make a good Rupert... a role that I think would be fantastic to act!
I would absolutely love it if they made a recent, true to the book version on film. And then, considering the recent fad for sequels, add "Rupert of Hentzau" to the list afterwards. Oh boy... that would be great!!!
As much as I enjoy it, not everyone has read the book. We don't realize Hentzau is the main villain until roughly 2/3 of the way through. Hentzau should be cast as a break-out role, with an up-and-comer or an unknown. Casting a leading man in the role is a dead giveaway that he's the real villain.
Rudolf Rassndyll/King Rudolf: Dan Stevens
Rupert of Hentzau: Tom Hiddleston
Colonel Zapt: Michael Caine
Michael: Pip Torrens
Fritz von Tarlenheim: Joe Absolom
Princess Flavia: Lily James
And keep the same Alfred Newman score that was used in both the 1937 and 1952 versions.
