A sentimental Journey.....


Unless you had lived in the UK at this time you might be forgiven for thinking what the heck is going on. I love anything by Basil Dearden who captured post war Britain (or maybe how we like to think it was) so splendidly. He made some hard hitting social commentaries too (see the Criterion set) and then others like this that almost feel like propaganda. Wonderfully sentimental, some first rate thesps (The magnificent Celia Johnson) and a story where everything was right with the world, everyone did what they were supposed to do and basically everyone was good. I loved it but wonder what Basil would have thought of Nicolas Winding Refn :-)
