Matt Lauer Today show contract won't likely be renewed

Insiders at NBC’s longest running show — maybe the longest running show ever — say Matt Lauer is likely to leave as co-host when his contract his up this year. “There’s no way he’s staying this time,” they say, confidently.

This comes as NBC News has just announced that Willie Geist is taking over “Sunday Today” in the next few weeks, and revamping it to be more like CBS’s “Sunday Morning.”

The theory is that Lauer will leave sometime after the November elections, and Geist will step in to his hosting shoes Monday through Friday. The “Sunday Today” gig is like a warm up for the big change come the end of the year.

The ratings are recovering. Today now beats GMA in the news demographics, and they have greatly cut GMA's lead in overall viewers. Lauer didn't want to leave a few years ago with the show's ratings down, and he publicly stated this. Now that things are recovering, he'll probably go.

I really like the new Sunday format with Willie Geist as his talents are a great fit for this type of show. I give Matt Lauer a 50/50 chance of staying on especially with the money that he his making which should not be an issue since Today is a cash cow for NBC. The show makes big money even in the ongoing ratings battle with GMA.

Hopefully he will be shamed into leaving after that idiotic "interview" he did with Trump and Clinton the other night.
He was a complete embarrassment.
