Best Lines

What are the best lines in this movie:

1. Ann to Guy: How did you get him to do it?
2. The Carousel worker to the policeman: He's the one. He's the one who killed her.

reply

Funniest line: "Yeah, I guess he can make it."

You have to see the context to appreciate it.

Joe, I really don't remember that line. Are you talking about ringing the bell at the amusement park?

reply

Warning! Warning! Spoiler!

Toward the end of the movie, the man running the carousel is struck by a police bullet meant for Bruno. He falls, knocking a lever which causes the carousel to spin faster and faster. Some brave old carnival worker starts crawling underneath the spinning carousel to try and reach the controls and stop it. Two cops are watching the whole thing.

The first cop suggests that it's too dangerous and the other cop says "Why, you want to do it?" The first cop says "Yeah, I guess he can make it."

Ah, yes. I remember it now. That line was hilarious!

It was hysterical. Sure, let him crawl under the runaway carousel (and get shot by another bumbling cop). This movie is brilliant, as is Rope, and it is most certainly not overrated.

He gave Pat Hitchcock some wonderful lines too---"oh daddy doesn't mind a little scandal, he's a senator". Priceless.

reply

I always liked the 'Is your name Miriam?' 'Why yes it is!' (Arrrgh! Strangle!) exchange

Pat Hitchcock had the best lines in this
"she was a tramp" - when her father hits back that everyone has a right to life and the pursuit of happiness:
"and she pursued it in all directions"

TO JOEPARKSON:
ALFRED HITCHCOCK (Interviewed by Francois Truffaut): "My hands still sweat when I think of that scene today. You know, that little man actually crawled under that spinning carousel. If he had raised his head by an inch, he would have been killed. I'll never do anything like that again."

reply

Yes. That combined with the old man's eager but casually scared *beep* expression as he crawls.

Clever people will recognize and tolerate nothing but cleverness.

It wasn't a line, but the scene where Bruno pops the kids balloon with his cigarette cracks me up.

I'm no expert, but . . . .

a smooth move for sure.
