Bonus Buck- Was it Lucy's or Just Tough Luck?

Just watched this one again and it still makes me laugh. Unbridled greed, an unfortunate surprise by Ricky, fighting over a dollar bill and Lucy in a vat of starch!

In this instance, I really do think Lucy was wrong. I know it was a major disappointment for Lucy to find out that she almost had the winning bonus buck, but it did belong to Ethel.

Ricky had good intentions but he should've realized that Lucy was always paying somebody at the kitchen door! A wiser move would have been for Ricky to bring home some dollar bills from the club and stick the winning bill among them. He could have said that he got change at the club and , "Here, try your luck with these bills."

He should have realized that Lucy checked every bill as soon as she came home. It was unfortunate, but I believe it was Ethel's. HER mistake was waving it in front of Lucy. She should have left it in her apartment and just told Lucy that she won.

Of course it was Ethel's win, but how could she have known that Lucy originally owned it???

The bigger question is why did Lucy suddenly need laundry service when Ricky bought her a new washing machine and dryer less than a year before??

reply

Yes, I wondered about that too! In the earlier episode Lucy was doing laundry with her old machine and hanging clothes in the kitchen to dry. All of a sudden, Lucy has a laundry service!

Yes, Ethel wouldn't have known that Lucy gave the bill to the grocery boy. But knowing Lucy the way Ethel should have, I would've left the bill in my apartment.

I posed the question about whos bill it was because Ricky said to Fred that "both" couples had a good case. I just didn't think so. Sure, Ricky found the bill. But Lucy gave it to the grocery boy. And that should've been the end of it. I think that if Ethel redeemed the bill, she might have been moved to give Lucy $50 or so because they were friends and Lucy gave the bill away by accident. But greed cost Lucy all the money!
