Ricky's hypocrisy

The Mustache - season 1: Ricky grows a mustache, Lucy doesn't like it and he basically tells her tough shit and refuses to shave it.

The Black Wig - season 3: Lucy wants to try an Italian hairstyle, Ricky doesn't approve and literally forbids her from having her own hair styled the way she pleases.

What an asshole he could be sometimes.

Yes, he was a typical 1950s dude. And Latin, too!

But Lucy is just as childish and wrong by refusing to go to the movies unless Ricky shaved off his mustache. (And personally, I think Ricky looked even sexier with the mustache).

Even today partners and spouses disagree about mustaches and hairstyles - "Don't you dare get your hair cut!". It has nothing to do with male sexism.

There is a TON of sexism in ILL!! I still love the show, but, yes, it's loaded with sexism.

Oh of course. It was a product of his time. But today if a woman tells her husband she's gonna dye her hair blonde, he might very well say "hell no" and it has nothing to do with sexism. He just thinks she'll look lame. And Lucy's hair did look rather silly in that French wig. And a lot of women do not like their man's scratchy beard.
