Would Return Home From Europe have worked as a series finale?

I've often heard people say this; that the show should have ended with the fifth season (which I don't agree with, but I digress) and that this would have made a perfect final episode. I'm not sure I really understand why people think this. It's a great episode sure, but it still does just play out like a normal show and there is no sense of closure in it, at least not more than any other episode.

Well, there's no "closure" in the statue episode (that ended the series) either.

But I digress.

I have never heard any fan say this, so it's Greek to me.

There's a number of clunkers in the sixth year, but no more than in the FIRST year. I can't imagine the show without the country arc. But I think "Lucy Raises Tulips" should've aired last, rather than the Yankee Doodle Day show, which is only a fair episode.

reply

Well yeah, the actual last episode was no more of an appropriate finale either, I didn't mean to imply it was. Come to think of it, I can't really think of an episode that could have functioned as a series finale.

reply

They wouldn't have done a farewell episode in 1957 anyway, as they were moving onto the hour-length shows in the fall.

A farewell show in 1960 would've been too emotional for Lucy, given she filed for divorce the very next day after that final one-hour offering.

reply

Well the actual final episode was "Lucy Meets The Moustache" and unfortunately they couldn't have much of a sense of finality in that one because apparently Lucille was in tears most of the time due to her failing marriage to Desi and that's also the reason why they are barely in the same scene together.

You just repeated the same point I made days ago.

I was replying to the person above, I didn't even see your comment genius.

Exactly, "genius." Try reading what others have already posted BEFORE responding. That way, the thread - and you - won't appear so dull.

I'm not reading every single post on every thread I go to, maybe instead you could just use some common sense and figure out what any 4 year old could have and that's that I was replying to the OP.

reply

Listen, idiot, you're supposed to reply directly UNDER the post you're responding to, whether it be at the top or somewhere in the middle.

If you don't know how to do that, ask any four-year old.

reply

The fact that you lack even the most basic common sense is no ones fault but your own.

Since you don't even know the basic guidelines for posting, do the rest of us a favor and stay off these boards.

I don't think I will, and if I ever were to it wouldn't be because some loser internet troll told me to.
