Today, after donning my mask and venturing out to my car for my groceries, I overheard my twenty-something neighbors watching I Love Lucy. I knew by one line they were watching "Lucy Does a TV Commercial.". Anyway, I could hear both of them laughing hard.
What's curious is I heard this same young couple watching part one of the John Wayne saga several years ago. Amazing how Lucy still pulls 'em in after all these decades.
Lucy is like the LBD, the little black dress. It's been a staple of women's wardrobes for decades. It's sophisticated, stylish and correct for most occasions. You can dress it up or down. Everyone can appreciate it even if they don't wear dresses.
This morning, I finally called in to do my census report, after ignoring, then misplacing the mail pamphlet (I know, shame on me). Anyway, the young lady who interviewed me noted my recent birthday, and said she, too, had a birthday in August - "August 6th." Naturally, I felt compelled to tell this young woman that she shares a birthday with Lucille Ball. She sounded excited, stating she never knew this.
Sadly, if I'd mentioned any other actor of Lucy's vintage, she probably wouldn't have known who I was referring to. But I knew by her reaction that she knew!
Funny coincidence about the wire hangars. I read "Mommie Dearest" and saw the movie. I shared Joan Crawford's hang up about wire hangers!
I always hang slacks on wooden hangers so they don't crease. It was hard to get my ex to hang up anything. He thought the floor was a great place to hang clothes. LOL He'd occasionally hang up his pants and he'd use wire hangers and I'd yell (jokingly ) "No wire hangars!"
He always looked puzzled. I had to explain the reference to him every time!!
I liked Mike Douglas. We used to watch his show in the afternoon.
I also share a birthday with Sandra Bullock, Mick Jagger, Helen Mirren, Kevin Spacey, etc. I'm in talented company. I have an obsession with celebrity birthdays and who shares them with family members.
I got obsessed with your birthday too.. You share it with Claus von Bulow, Abigail Folger (one of the Manson Family victims) and Eric Carmen.
Yes, poor woman. The next day she was supposed to fly to San Francisco to see her mother. Too bad she didn't leave the day before.
Mike Douglas was kind of a cornball. But I liked his use of a week long assistant guest host, if that's what it was called. Sometimes I watched the show just because of them.
I remember when he had Sally Struthers as a co-host one week. Boy, was she dippy! LOL
And I'll never forget when John and Yoko guest hosted. Strange twosome!
