What would he have been charged with? Involuntary or voluntary manslaughter? I can't see how it would be first or second degree murder. It clearly wasn't premeditated nor was their any intent to kill the guy. And what do you think his sentence would be?

The problem was his reputation ... like a crook with a long rap sheet, he earned similar.
Even his fellow cops didn't trust him.
If he could convince them that he was defending himself from a guy trying to hit him on the head with a bottle, it would just be self defense. The guy's hand print on the bottle would be from holding it in a club-like position, not in a drinking or pouring manner.
