Very different

This movie is very different from the other Flynn westerns (and Flynn movies in general) that I've seen. For one, Flynn doesn't get the girl, which is a bit jarring. Also, {spoilers} he dies at the end, which as far as I know doesn't happen in any of the others I've seen (I could be wrong about this though). And Flynn's character himself is different - he's gruffer, meaner, and more serious than the roles Flynn usually plays. I can't say I prefer this different Flynn, but he is interesting to watch.

What's the Spanish for drunken bum?

I found it very different as well. The tone was much darker and the Flynn character was more hard edged. Good flick overall

Flynn dies on-screen in nine films:

The Case of the Curious Bride (1935)
The Charge of the Light Brigade (1936)
The Dawn Patrol (1938)
The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex (1939)
They Died With Their Boots On (1941)
Uncertain Glory (1944)
Rocky Mountain (1950)
Hello God (1951)
The Roots of Heaven (1958)

I picked up the EF Western Box Set at a Boxing Day sale and for some strange reason just assumed they would be "okay". I really liked them all and "Rocky Mountain" was my favourite. I loved the change of pace for EF and the whole darkness of the picture. Highly recommended.

Yes, sir, I'm going to do nothing like she's never been done before!

Yes, good movie and performance from Flynn during the mostly overlooked latter years of his career. Should be better-known than it is.

For one, Flynn doesn't get the girl...

Well, he made up for that in real life.
