Maureen O'Hara

Simply stated, even in Black and White,Maureen O'Hara's beauty is stunning. She puts the "Beauties" of today to shame.

Totally agree!

Maureen O'Hara, Ireland Best Actress. Got Maureen O'Hara and Julie Andrews autograph 2008!

reply

No argument. It's too bad that she retired so young, making only one film appearance after 1971 (inexplicably, a John Candy comedy in 1991). She's done a fair number of DVD commentaries over the last few years (IIRC these include The Black Swan, McClintock, Miracle on 34th Street, and Rio Grande) and is an engaging and still feisty lady.

she actually did three movies in 1970s the last being the red pony with Henry Fonda a good one

Yes Maureen OHara is stunning at every age. I like listening to her commentaries. Lol she is the best.

I would love to hear some of her stories about making movies with Director John Ford. I hear she can only tell half of what happened on those location camps out west.

reply

I saw it for The Quiet Man. I enjoyed it. She is very good at detail, and telling stories. In my opinion anyway.

If you are a fan of Maureen O'Hara, go out and buy her autobiography "Tis Herself" (if you haven't already read it). She is a grand story-teller and, if you're a fan, you'll love this book.

reply

Yes she is great storyteller. That's why I like listening to her on the commentary.

The Quiet Man was my Dad's favorite movie, and Maureen O'Hara his very favorite actress. I'm certain her, ahem, 'rack' had something to do with it.

Well combined with her beauty, I figured men like her for her "assets" as well.

Funny, my Old Man loved Jane Russel for the same reason; however...I had a crush on Maureen because of her fiery personality & that red hair. I never cottoned to her having 'boobage'. It was her overall strong, no nonsense woman image she had.

reply

I love her for those very reasons myself. I could imagine my very Irish grandmother being like her as a young woman.

What I love about O'Hara is yes, she's feisty and tough, but when her man needs her, she responds with everything she's got.
Love the scene where Wayne comes back to his tent after a hard day's fighting Indians, lights a lamp, and SHE'S standing there! He grabs her and gives her the first kiss of the movie, and despite their estrangement, she responds to his need of her.

As a kid I fell in love with her in "Huntchback of Notre Dame' I could not believe a human could be that beautiful. She was still stunning years later in the John Wayne films of the 60's. She seemed to have so much fun in them movies... as did everyone else involved.

reply

Oh, please. She's not ugly, but she's nothing special. And that red hair......

reply

Redhaired girls are some of the most beautiful in the world. Just look in Ireland to know this is true. Today's female stars can't hold a candle to Maureen O'Hara or Maureen Sullivan in terms of feminity.

reply

Feminine and yet still tough as nails if she needed to be.

I like her strength and spirit. Oh yes she is goddess.

reply

Strength spirit beauty, she had it all. She was great in R G but in The Quiet Man she was just mesmerizing.

"Even in Black and White,"

Black-and-white is beautiful.
