"Bogart"

This movie was sadly all too similar to Bogart in real life.

melancholy. The film is brilliant and contains a wonderful performance from Bogart who until i saw this thought was a so so actor. Ray i always thought was an actors director , and managed to draw what i belive where career best perfomances , out of the likes James Dean , Bogart , James Mason , Robert ryan and Robert Mitchum in the best of his films. From watching Ray's movies i always felt he was a bit of a dreamer , maybe even a wanna be actor , their is a wonderful edgy realism to be found in the best of his films , in fact his 50's out put is as good as there is out there , his later work is flawed yet still fascinating to watch , he was always making a young man's film's and that i believe is where his greatness lies this seeming apparent refusual to grow up.
But what i liked most in Ray's work was the reccurring empathy for the social misfit.

In a Lonely place i feel is his best film one of the greatest ever made , it is also Bogart's best in my opinion and i adore Casablanca but this is better the darkest Bogart brooding and all knowing the Bogart of in a lonely place was the Bogart well all needed to see , we all wanted to see but rarely got the chance.

The great director that most people have never heard of Nicholas ray

His best films my opinion are a follows

In a lonely place
They live by night
Bigger than life
The lusty men
On Dangerous Ground
Rebel Without a cause
Bitter victory
Johnny Guitar
Wind across the Everglades
The Savage innocents
party girl. All ranging from great to very good these movies are a must for any film fan.

Tedious? Maybe that one needs a little explanation. Can you tell us why you found it tedious? No film is perfect and there are always those who will not it, but that seems an odd choice of words.

I guess it's like looking at clouds. You see one thing and I see another. Peace.
