I might be crazy to think that but Joe in this movie, the one who was not technically very bright and got a "hot date" in the night of the launch reminded me of Joey Tribbiani (of "Friends") a lot... the easy going ladies man, who are both Italian and both talk the same way...

The guy in Destination Moon is named Sweeney, which is a Scottish-Irish name.
BTW, he was played by Dick Wesson, a very versatile character actor. In Calamity Jane (1953), starring Doris Day and Howard Keel, Wesson played Francis Fryer -- the actor who's forced to perform a song in drag.

shareYes. Joe reminded me of a painful and pungent bowel movement. I HATE that accent!! Beyond that, there's a scene where they are launching into space and that idiot looks right at the camera while his face is pulled back due to g-force - it just made me anxious to punch his mugging, failed physical comedy attempts. That actor nearly made this film utterly unwatchable for me.
