Eleanor's Pregnancy

From Frances Franklin's January 1950 Silver Screen column...."Now here's an odd bit of coincidence. In "Caged" Eleanor Parker plays a pregnant prison inmate. And for the first time on the screen, you"ll see an actress "padded" up to the ninth month of pregnancy."I can hardly wait until April" said Eleanor on the last day of shooting. "But why?" asked sadistic matron Hope Emerson, who had been pushing her around unmercifully. "Oh, my own baby will be born then" was the casual answer. And that's how Hollywood learned about it!

Cute revelation but I would never have taken that risk. A lot of women have lost their children on the set of a movie because they accidentally got pushed around a little too much. There were some potentially dangerous scenes in this movie but I suppose she didn't want to have to give up the role or get too much sympathy and babying on set. This was Parker's second child so I guess she felt she knew what to expect.

In any case, I'm glad her baby survived the shoot and got the chance to be born alive. I enjoyed the movie and would have liked to see the baby get credit for playing the unborn baby (I am joking about the credit). By the way, the baby was a girl, her second daughter.

Woman, man! That's the way it should be Tarzan. [Tarzan and his mate]

Wow I never knew that. Is Ms. Parker still living. I believe I have seen her in later films as an old lady.
