usually the first entrance in a series of movies the original is considered the best one, but the upcoming flicks in this franchise really are much more fun, it's actually a bit difficult to grasp how it evolved from this very tame slow flick to the wild and crazy sequels, a hint of what were to come is hinted here though at one part where he races the train and in last moment beats it, looks just like the scene in the movie "the giant gila monster", you can hear by the sound this is from 1949, i actually had to put on subtitles, and the most brutal editing of any other i can recall, some of the cast in this original is different than the usual actors that became known in these roles, and a common thing with this franchise is actors which later will appear in trademark roles first appear in a smaller part in an earlier flick, as is the case in this, a player that became a big part of this franchise is here in a tiny role given one single line, his buddy, which is the usual though, really appear different in this, and the opening of this first differs from the ones that were to come later in the way it starts off right away with a tune which became common to be featured later in the movies or close to the end, it can be compared in this way to "dr. no", where by rather the second movie "from russia with love" is where they set up the standard for the way they shape the following movies.
