I was ready to turn the channel when it suddenly got good. There are some heavy hitters in this movie: Walter Huston, Ethel Barrymore, Agnes Moorehead etc..Agnes Moorehead steals every scene she's in and it was no exception here. She is superb as the pawnbroker! The rest of the movie is above average with the second half of the movie being notably better than the first half. Gregory Peck is good as the suffering gambling addict. The Ethel Barrymore (Grandmother Ostrovsky) is totally creepy and the following scene in the pawnbroker's shop is equally shocking. Gambling addiction is scary; Gregory Peck convinced me.
