Waltzing Matilda???

I am baffled as to the use of Australia's "Waltzing Matilda" in the music score for this movie. The movie is supposedly set in pre WWII England. Anybody have an insight?

Good movie.

No insight. I came here with the same question! I've gathered that 'speedway' either began in America or perhaps just had a lot of American influence based on the American announcer and riders. I knew nothing about it before seeing this. Also, any idea what song the crowd was singing at the beginning of the film?

Motorcycle racing on oval-shaped dirt tracks began in the early 20th century in the U.S., and nearly simultaneously in Australia. Organized league speedway racing as depicted in the movie started in England in 1928. The original title of the film, "Once a Jolly Swagman", and the use of "Waltzing Matilda", are a mystery to me!
