What was wrong with the cat?

I didn't get to see the beggining of the scene. Help would be much appreciated.

I have a rainbow of thoughts!

The cat was in an alley fight with another cat and was torn up pretty good.

It got into a bad fight with another cat.

When we see Uncle Elizabeth (the cat) the first time she has a lot of bandages on her scalp for wounds from a fight. Dagmar is taking care of the cat and by the end of the movie we know she wants to be an animal doctor and she is raising other animals such as rabbits. I loved the cat name "Uncle Elizabeth."

Hilarious when Mama blurted "Right now I've got to chloroform a cat!" or words to that effect. Great classic.

I loved ........... "Dagmar, let me see that cat" as mama sees the tail move, the look on her face was priceless.

Yes,the cat scene,in all its parts, was wonderful. I especially like the parents arguing about who would hold the cat and who would chloroform it. My mama used to fix up the neighborhood cats that came to our house for love and food. Our neighbors set traps for them on our property to hurt them. My mama would take them and sew up their paws with strong thread and a sewing needle. I remember Mama.

me too, especially when we see the cat wrapped up to its eyes in the blanket

Gotta a love a pre FDA America where you could have chloroform laying around your house like Neosporin. Wonder how many people died from that stuff before they started to regulate it.

"Uncle Elizabeth" makes as much sense as me naming my female cat "Fred". (She doesn't seem to mind.) :-)

The cat probably had an abscess and maybe a fever and was just in pain, not dying. They have nine lives and you can't kill one that easily anyway. The whole episode was great. The music in that scene could induce tears, then it changes as the mood does.

Except to a tiny child who didn't know whether the cat was male or female.

I do hope he won't upset Henry...

Let's just say "Two Knights Jousting over a 'Lady Fair' ".
