What kind of snake was MacGregor?

What kind of snake was MacGregor? Does anyone know? I think he may have been a small grass snake or slow worm. At any rate, something small and not venomous.

Yes, MacGregor ("killed by Mrs. Baines" as Phile would like his pet's epitaph to read) seems to be a grass snake.

I love it when Phile holds the snake up to view the cityscape and says, "Look! London!" So charming.

"The night was sultry."

Thanks, agera. Yes, I thought it may have been a grass snake, because when I was a little boy in the early 1950s, my older brother's friend had one that looked just like MacGregor.

Yes, a charming scene indeed when he shows MacGregor London. Phillipe obviously thought the world of MacGregor. The Fallen Idol is a rare example of all the right ingredients coming together at the right time to make a truly classic film.

Someone on YouTube says that when Phillipe is holding MacGregor, it's a slow worm, also known as a legless lizard...but when he puts it down onto the floor, it becomes a grass snake.

I think that in some scenes it was also a plastic snake.

Yes, that is such a charming scene. Plus, I love the way Phillips says the name MacGregor. They cast this role very well. He comes off as such a sweet boy.
