Veronica Lake is

more like Moronica Fake in this sort of noir western. When this was made she was married to the director Andre de Toth. This flick has its moments, but no thanks to her. Nowhere near as noir as Robert Mitchum's "Pursued" though it does have a gunfight so dark you can barely figure out what's going on. Disappointing, but I did like Don DeFore. He was good in most of what he did.

Nothing is more beautiful than nothing.

She was a good actress and was good in this one but it was an offbeat role for her though.

Lake's performance worked well for her character. She conveyed a brutal determination well fitted for her character's personality.

"I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not".

Her character is so weird. She's this ruthless persona but is always cooking and serving the men tea or what not. I realize the era but it was odd. And some of her styling was very unattractive. When I read DeToth and her were married while filming I figured they must've divorced pretty soon after because, although I enjoy see her in the role, she does not come across well on screen.
