'Warm comedy'

I remember back when I was a kid and lived in L.A. This movie used to come on every so often on one of the local TV movie shows.

I distinctly remember one announcer announce: "Today - 'warm comedy' as Claudette Colbert and Fred McMurray discover the ups and downs of owning a farm in 'The Egg and I'."

I remember thinking "wtf? 'WARM' comedy??? I like my comedies HOT - as in 'Some Like it Hot'!"

Now - seeing as how this movie has since become somewhat dated and its humor does not hit all the notes with today's viewers, I totally agree with that announcer back in the 1960s.

"Don't call me 'honey', mac."
"Don't call me 'mac'... HONEY!"

All of the humor in "The Egg and I" still works. You have to be able to put yourself in a time other than your own. On the other hand, the final line of "Some Like it Hot", which everyone seems to think is the funniest line ever uttered on film, is barely worth a chuckle.
