This movie was so good that.....

I fell asleep about halfway through. Really people, a 7.0???? From what I saw it should have been a 4!! I'm sure the humour was fresh at the time, but nowadays it seriously falls flat.

Exactly -- "nowadays"...

I loved the movie and will pick those oldies anyday over the crap out today.

But it's not all that unusual for audiences to fall asleep during a really great movie. We all need our rest.

Claudette, Fred, Percy, Richard Long are all in this, which certainly raises the star level right there.

Those four usually play into consideration for adding extra points to the ratings.

Yeh, I share your angst; I fell asleep about 30 minutes into "The Godfather" and I certainly can't understand it being in the top 5 films on IMDb. I'm sure the action was fresh at the time, but nowadays it seriously falls flat.

LOLOLOLOL Touché - this is one of my personal all time favorites and has been since I was a teen - I'm now in my 60s and STILL love every second.

As lover of old movies (at 48, I mean 30's/40's/50's) I have to throw in the with the OP. Maybe it's the source material (or the attempt to skirt some of it?), the woman's perspective, or whatever, the movie is one note and monotonous. We get it, she's a fish out of water. But for 1:45? Ma and Pa Kettle add a spark (hence why they went on to a series of their own), but if you lifted the scenes out (and you could without drastically affecting the movie) you'd have 1:30 of truly one note over and over. Is it terrible? No, but MAYBE a 6.0 out of 10.0. A "post-code", Reader's Digest, weak-tea and saltine cracker (low sodium) of a movie. Claudette Colbert looks like she'd rather be doing anything else than be in this movie.

She's supposed to look like she'd rather be doing anything else than being on that farm. That's the whole point of the story.
