The milk truck driver
That was his real life wife in his apartment cheerfully cooking breakfast for everybody. It was great the way they interacted so affectionately. The sad thing is she died just two years later.

I'm watching this movie for the very first time on the Turner Classic Movie channel an excellent film and that scene was just so nice as well . Al the milkman and his wife were just wonderful characters too . Thanks pan-10 for your subject post .

I loved the scene with the milkman and his wife. I am sure they did not have such money but they were happy all the same. That woman's cooking always makes me hungry.
We're on a mission from God.
That was one of the most charming scenes in this movie - it also kind of foreshadowed what Joe and Alice would be like in their later years.

From another great movie the milk truck driver was great in !! He often played a cop back in those days. RIP Mr Gleason !!
Shouldn't they have taken Joe to a hospital after a drunk punched him in the eye?
