Age of Carey Grant’s character

He’s supposed to be this idle, wandering figure who comes home to mamma. I figure he’s gotta be a young guy. But Carey Grant, when he filmed this movie, was 40 years old. Is this a flaw?

While watching the movie, i didn't know Grant's character was supposed to be a teenager (which is the case in the book it was based on). Even not knowing that, it was a bit weird seeing a guy that age acting like he was a de facto teen or in his early twenties. But as we know, very few actors are stars at that young age, so they went for star power with Grant, not to mention Ethel Barrymore, who also wouldn't pass as a teenager's mother.
As both were great actors, in the end you just forget those little inconsistencies and enjoy the movie, which was great by the way.
If this was made nowadays, it would be much less weird seeing a 40 year old so immature as Grant's character is at the beggining of the movie.
