Crazy costume designer and the men's suits!

Did you notice that nearly every men's suit, and if not the suit, the tie!, is one of those crazy patterns that even when shown in black and white causes an illusion of color on the retina? What madman or woman was behind this, and why?!

Where's your crew?
On the 3rd planet.
There IS no 3rd planet!
Don't you think I know that?

Very funny. Of course the film was made before TV, so the costume dept. didn't plan on the strobing that occurs sometimes when B & W films are shown on color TV.

Thanks for reminding me of this film. I find I want to see it again, not just for the suits. :)

I love the suits; they're bold and flashy in a brash kind of way. It's too bad more men don't show a little personality in their manner of dress. Some do with casual wear but when it comes to suits and formal attire they all pretty much look the same.

I wonder if that has something to do with the increasing popularity of tattoos and other similar trends. For all the talk of diversity, there seems to be a great deal of conformity and Political Correctness in modern society. It leaves some people feeling stifled. Unable to speak up and speak out, some find alternate ways to express themselves and distinguish themselves from the masses.

I think, in America, it's mostly an education problem. Most guys don't get the concept of having flair in their clothing.

The other thing, especially in California, is that nobody wears suits anymore except in very formal situations, so of course the suit ensembles they do have are pretty somber and bland.

You may be right, education, or the lack thereof, does seem to be at the root of all things.
