Finally tracked down this movie after unsuccessfully searching under 'jacket' and 'coat'.

But I was surprised to hear that Paul robeson was deeply unhappy about the final sequence, feeling it was little better than caricature and even tried to buy up copies of the film.

I only saw this film once as a teenager and thought the final speech by Luke [played by Robeson] was deeply moving.

Robeson is great. The script is poison

Robeson is grand but the scripting of his story is too much 'Uncle Tom', darn shame a on the whole it is good movie with some tremendous acting!!

It's unfortunate that the most awkward segment in the movie is probably the most well acted and animated one. Robeson, Anderson and the rest are not sleepwalking.
