Sad true Gehrig strories I wish were in the movie

Shortly before his death, Lou said, "You have to get knocked down to realize how people really feel about you. I've realized that more than ever lately. The other day, I was on my way to the car. It was hailing, the streets were slippery and I was having a tough time of it. I came to a corner and started to slip. But before I could fall, four people jumped out of nowhere to help me. When I thanked them, they all said they knew about my illness and had been keeping an eye on me."

I also heard that the day he took himself out of the lineup, Babe Dahlgren (who replaced him) said he was crying. I know the movie was sad as it is, but putting that in would've added to the drama, in my opinion.

Just to be clear, was it Gehrig crying or Dahlgren?

I saw that interview with Dahlgren, Lou went to drink water from the fountain and was stooped down for 2 minutes. Dalhlgren realized he was crying and told a friend beside him and the friend nonchalantly slapped a towel on Lou's head and said something offhand. Lou used the towel to wipe his face. They didn't want Lou to feel uncomfortable and did it for him to save face.
