Mary Astor not very attractive

Her acting was decent but she had to have been of the most homely looking leading ladies of her time. She looks like a Grandmother in this film. Otherwise I thoroughly enjoyed the movie.

Just saw your post today. You couldn't be more wrong about Mary Astor's looks. She was beautiful. Maybe in the past three years or so you're evaluation skills have improved. Who knows.

Hopefully your vision will improve as well. You are blind as a bat.

She didn't just have sex appeal, she had an active sex life with leading men, and others. I understand her diaries were replete with tales.

The short hairstyles of that period were very unflattering. IMO. Bacall was smart and always kept her hair long.

Even a real beauty like Ava Gardner wore her hair shorter in the 40s and 50s, when she would have looked even more smashing with longer hair.

I'm looking at Astor's face at this moment, and she was most definitely not "homely." She didn't get these starring roles with Bogart because she lacked sex appeal.

Bogart wasn't exactly conventionally tall dark and handsome, but he had a ton of charisma. Give me Bogart any damn day.

Agreed.
