Holden and Ford like Teenagers Fantastic

It's amazing watching this film now and seeing Glenn Ford and William Holden when they where so young together like teenagers. To think of the fine actors they both became and the fantastic films they went on to make. It's fascinating to watch these old films now.In terms of quality,The films today just don't compare. It must have been a magical era to have been in but then it was just after the depression so it probably wasn't all that glamorous in reality.

This is a marvelous movie. Being mainly familiar with Ford and Holden from later films, I barely recognized them in this one.

It was great seeing Holden, before he became a "movie star," playing that boxing scene with his shirt off. Easy on the eyes but not pumped up.

I only recognized Holden through his distinct voice. What a career!

Yes, it's fun to see Ford and Holden at the beginning of their careers, but c'mon, this movie was made during the heyday of the studio system, the Big 5 (MGM, Paramount, Warner Brothers, Columbia and 20th Century Fox) cranked out TONS of crap (not that this is) that was meant to fill time in the movie theaters they owned. When my dad was going to movies in the 30's and 40's, they'd have newsreels > a cartoon > a "B" picture (like this) and a main feature. That's a LOT of movies to crank out, it was an assembly line.

Good points, but "The Big Five" studios at the time included RKO, not Columbia.

I happen to love those old movies you refer to as crap. You may not think much of them because they're very different than what's being made today but I'm pretty sure the audiences back then enjoyed them. There are also plenty of people today who still think they're worth watching.

Whatever we may think today of the old studio system, at one point that's all there was. They did a lot for the advancement of movies so without them the industry wouldn't be what it is today. In some ways what we have now is good but I think more crap is being made today than ever before.

... they're both really very cute in this AND it's a good way to spend a couple hours (with old fashioned TV commercials) on a lazy Saturday afternoon :)

I was surprised how young Ford looked here when in Gilda, 5 years later, he looked about 10 years older. Holden I had seen younger but not as young here especially with the long hair in hd film quality.
