George Sanders - my hero!!

Always an oily, oozing, sleazy character, he still manages to fit in lots of charm! He was great in this!

Just saw this film for the first time and I enjoyed it thoroughly!

The Jerry & Allen relationship was a little funny. I understand that she was written as a hooker originally, which was not going to be in the film. He had such a fatherly way with her. Even when they almost get to kiss, it still doesn't feel like there's sizzling love between them, at least not on his part.

Sanders supposedly left two suicide notes one in English one in French. Now how collective is that in the faCE OF oblivion?

reply

And as is obvious in this movie, he also was fluent in German.

reply

I love George! He was oh so suave and oh so cynical. He steals every movie that he appears in.

reply

I agree, even when only his voice is there i.e. Jungle Book.

It's interesting to note that while there were only a handful of American films made before the war that were critical of the Nazis, Sanders was in three of them:

Man Hunt
Confessions of a Nazi Spy
Foreign Correspondent
(finally on the right side)

It ain't easy being green, or anything else, other than to be me

reply

That IS very interesting!

He made a perfect hateful villain.

reply

Oooh, I loved Foreign Correspondent, a real classic.

reply

He plays some good guys, too. He's great in The Strange Affair of Uncle Harry or Lured.

reply

He was Simon Templar in The Saint series which is out in a 2-disc set from WB Archives. A great urbane, not-too-good-guy role for Sanders.

reply

He did seem cool towards her romantically. Maybe it was the class difference. But still, she's so beautiful, any man that doesn't have sizzling love for her probably doesn't like women to begin with.

reply

George Sanders was simply one of the most suavely badass gentlemen in history. Always made such a charming yet sleazy villain; he'll always be one of the best actors ever. And dat voice! I could listen to it all day.

Peter, is your social worker in that horse?
