Just a LOT of fun... Follies or Gold Diggers on Ice...

I really enjoyed this. Yeah, it wasn't Jimmy Stewart, not Joan Crawford's best efforts - but it was 1939 - escape was needed. The skating segments were so graceful and fluid. I marvelled at the smooth & reflective surface of the ice, then I noticed that it had a thin covering of water.

The story is not very original and it seems like the film is an excuse to feature the Ice Follies and I didn't mind that a bit since that was my favorite part. The first half of the film features a standard love story but then we are treated to the first Ice Follies scene and it is very entertaining, featuring a Native American routine that will explode any liberal's head. So I fully encourage all liberals to watch it. Please! But the best part of the film and what makes it one to watch is the final 15 minutes where we are treated to the film within a film of Cinderella, which is a beautifully lavish ice skating production and it switches from black and white to Technicolor.
Joan Crawford and Jimmy Stewart star and they are both very good but the film really becomes about the Ice Follies and for that I give the film 7/10.
