De Lesseps family said it was so fictitious that they threatened to sue

Apparently he lost his a wife and son right before starting on the canal. I didn't catch this in the movie tonight on TCM. I think a lot of movies back then were loose with the truth for dramatic purposes. It's an OK movie, and I like both Loretta Young and Annabella, both beautiful ladies.
