My thoughts (spoilers herein)

This was a fair family-oriented movie but lacked an interesting overall storyline. It reflected the poverty of the Depression in a kind of sanitized way, with the family getting kicked out of its house and having to find a place to stay, but surprisingly with little emotional reaction from the characters. While Bing Crosby is clearly a likeable character, it did not fit well in this particular role as an ex-con. The chemistry between him and Madge Evans was mediocre. Overall the message was of he growth of a family through unusual circumstances, and how the tragedy of the murder of the parents ended up being he key to the child's new life.
