Best Davis Role`

Does anybody else think that this rates up with Davis's best performances?

I'll take it ahead of her other acclaimed 30s performances (Jezebel/Of Human Bondage) any day. In fact, I think its my 2nd favorite of hers, behind Now Voyager. Maybe 3rd behind the Letter... thats close.

Davis is brillant in this film. She deserved her Oscar for this picture. She was wonderful as Joyce Heath.

YES!!! It has such a poignant ending, too. I just watched it for the second time and love it even more.

I think she's terrific in this - so much more natural than the cigarette-waving, bigger-than-life Bette that was to come.

She was already on her way to becoming that actress, IMO.

I actually liked Margaret Lindsay's performance quite a lot.

It is said that Davis was awarded the Oscar for this performance to compensate for not being nominated for Of Human Bondage. If that's true, and I think it is, the Oscars were are still are a meaningless joke.

This year Leo DiCaprio will win the Oscar. A great performance, well deserved. Yet I've read many times that it's his turn, he's been snubbed too often. That shouldn't be a criteria for winning any more than the color of his skin is.

This isn't even a good performance, by any standards. It's unmodulated, and completely over-the-top. What it is, is classic camp, and that's what the gay Davis fan-boys come for. This is great acting? This is Oscar-worthy? C'mon!

No, I was shocked when I read that Davis had won her first Oscar with this movie. There was much better material to follow where she wasn't even nominated. Strange how the Academy Awards work!
