Warren William

I think this is worth seeing just for Warren William's wonderful over-the-top performance...priceless!

Excuse me for talking while you're interrupting.

It's a year late but I had to post - I'm watching the film on TCM - Warren William is fabulous.

digitaldiva: W.W. has the ruthless business man down so well you cannot imagine anybody else playing it during the 1930. When these pre-code roles dried up he transitioned to Perry Mason without a problem.

reply

I agree about Warren William in this one. He's totally out of control and I can watch some of the scenes over & over again.

Now get out!!!

ubanspaceman: He was the one for those roles at that time. Particularly when he addressed his board members or other employees. Calling them cowards, dolts or lazy bums or what other epitaphs he would manage to degrade them with.

reply

True.

But, some of his most savage comments were to his bankers who lent him money and were trying either to tell him how to run his department store or to find a way to get his department store away from his control.

He handled his bankers as well as he did his employees: find the bankers' weaknesses and exploit them.

E pluribus unum

JackBluegrass; I get the feeling that is how President Trump handled the Board of Directors of Lockheed. He was not going to put up with the F-35 costing 250 Million$ a copy.

I saw this film last week. Pre-Code movies are a blast to watch. I'm glad Loretta's character and her husband told the Scrooge manager to " go kick rocks".
