Funny movie!

I LOVE getting to hear Buster talk, he had a great voice, unfortunately his sound pictures were not his best because he lost his independent control over his films by then...and this one starts out a bit slow and is not up to par with his silent works of art, but regardless it is still a HILARIOUS movie. The whole show at the end was fantastic but what I also loved was Jimmy Durante stepping out of the bathroom in Buster's place, in his underwear, saying he'll marry the girl.

I absolutely agree. I don't know if I had low expectations, but this film confirmed my suspicions that Buster Keaton is a very talented actor. I know it's not a Keatonesque film, but he still manages to pull through beautifully and even if he disliked comedy of words as opposed to comedy of action, some lines had me in stitches. I loved the end and I wish I was the girl he smooches so sweetly.

I agree with the above comments that this was hilarious.

After rolling with laughter for 80 minutes, I looked up reviews by the common folk and the pros who seem to agree that it stinks.

I really don't understand. It is as if they were watching a different movie from the one I watched.

Perhaps they just expect something else from Buster, but this stab at character comedy was very well done in my opinion and the comedy solid all the way around.

funny reading a modern audience enjoy a movie of this era so much, at first i thought this was a silent movie, when the baby started crying i kind of wished it was, thinking about it that baby would be in its late 80s now i guess, with the exception of playing smaller parts, like a guest appearance in 1950s twilight zone series (episode "once upon a time") and "around the world in 80 days", this might be the only speaking buster keaton flick i've seen, and i take it the title is a reference to the silent movies, the joke about dr. jekyll and mr. hyde double feature at the cinema was actually a good joke for this time, and overall the language and mood seemed a lot more modern than a 1930s movie, add a few decades, i actually had to re check if i'd seen right that this was from the 1930s, but wow, look at that ceiling, another giveaway is the women's short hairstyles and bad make up, they're half naked though, also looked strange in a movie of this time.
