Just okay

I recently watched King of Jazz on Criterion blu ray for the first time. The film is directed by John Murray Anderson and features a variety of musical performances and comedic sketches, instead of a narrative storyline. The colors look great and the costumes and sets are wonderful. The problem is that the film is dated and uneven. Some song and dance numbers are pretty good, others fall flat. The comedy sketches are mostly unfunny and not very good. While there are some fantastic, spectacular moments, there are also segments that drag. If you are a fan of 1930s revue style musicals, then you may want to check this out. Otherwise, you might want to pass. It is a 6/10 at best from me.

Exceptionally entertaining, much more than I had expected. Don't miss it if you're interested in what was popular in 1929, in color with good sound.
