Horse killed or injured? Animal cruelty spoils the film

I love Jack and Dolores in this, so lovely together. A funny, highly watchable film with sweet real-life romance. However, when the men race to the ship, one horse falls and appears to be trampled over by the others. I fear he might have been fatally injured. The way animals are mistreated in old films is inexcusable. Barrymore's Don Juan also ends with horse horror. Why!!!

"A woodcock!" Everyone must see the French restaurant scene in "Deception" (1946). Ah, Claude Rains!

Movie girl: I feel the same about animal cruelty in films. I was concerned seeing this too! I am glad you gave him the respect of saying "he". THat is what I do. I never could say it when referring to any animals. I hope he survived.

Otherwise, it was a good film.

The horse fell, which is not mistreatment, it is an accident. It was still trying to get back up when the shot ended, and the rider was still mounted. They probably weren't seriously injured.
