The Pansy dance and slang "applesauce".

Annie's brother Tim used the slang after they had dinner during a mild argument between the siblings. I never heard that 20's slang before. Does anyone know what it means. BTW, I do like applesauce as a treat, and recently used it as an alternative to oil in making a cake. Getting back to the vintage film, it is ironic, that a dance theme for hetero couples was called The Pansy Ball or Dance. After all, pansy was a slur aimed at homosexuals.
