Period dramas

In the four years since Ang Lee's flop Billy Lynn's Long Half-Time Walk failed to make Joe Alwyn a star, he has seemingly gravitated towards costume dramas - The Favourite, Mary Queen of Scots, Harriet, the recent TV adaptation of A Christmas Carol. It's an interesting career path for an up-and-coming actor to take - looking at him, one would expect the makers of contemporary teen movies would be snapping him up, particularly given tabloid interest in his Taylor Swift connection. I'm interested to see where his career goes because he has talent.

I've seen Joe in 3 movies (Operation Finale, Boy Erased, and Mary Queen of Scots) but he doesn't really stand out in any of them. He plays supporting roles, and it's the other actors/actresses who are more memorable. But there's nothing wrong with being in a supporting role, and he did a decent job in all three.
