No he didn't. If he turned down the role before the backlash, that would have been one thin, but if he turned it down after accepting it due to liberal reactionary outcry, then it just makes him look like a coward. I love how whenever black or Asian people take on roles of white characters it's considered multicultural and cool and hip and diverse. But when it's the other way around it becomes "whitewashing". He should have stuck with the role and told everyone to fuck off.
