Acting or just being himself?

About a quarter of the way in to Warcraft, Travis Fimmel morphed from being Brad Pitt into being Ragnar Lothbrok (of the smug smile, sly sideways glances and whispered semi-threats). After that it was all Vikings vs. Orcs to me.

So, is that Ragnar characterization an invention of the actor (which would be interesting), or is it just an aspect of the actor's personality and will be showing up in all future roles (which is going to make everything look like Vikings).

Vikings will forever follow him because its a really good show that portray his talent. Acting is the art of being yourself but in the skin of someone else. I understand what you say about his facial expressions but you are just too familiarized with it. Just a tips, when you watch a movie forget everything, let your mind be concentrate on the movie and don't move. You will never be affected by remark like this.

Just seen Warcraft and I see what you mean. I rather think that Travis created Ragnar - the sly glances, etc, and that he was maybe even asked to perform in a similar way in Warcraft as it would work as Lothar too. Notice that Lothar is a contraction of Lothbrok and Ragnar. Weird coincidence.

Having said that, my blog sort of says the opposite - that art/life reflect each other.

To quote Allen Swan (played by Peter O’Toole) in My Favorite Year, “I’m not an actor! I’m a MOVIE STAR!”

Actors act. They inhabit different personae convincingly. We watch movie stars for themselves. John Wayne couldn’t emote for shit—but he was John fucking Wayne.
