Oscar Snub for 'Memoirs of a Geisha'?

I was just looking though Ziyi's awards, and although she was nominated for a Golden Globe, SAG and BAFTA for Leading Actress, she didn't get an Oscar nomination. This is before I really paid much attention to movies, was this considered a snub by the Academy at the time? I would certainly think so.
