Happy 100th birthday, Jack Webb!

I hear him at least once or twice a week, every week, on the old time radio station that I fall asleep to every night (Unless there’s something very interesting on coast to coast am). I’m more familiar with him at this point from the Dragnet radio series, than the later tv series. The actress that played his mother in the radio series, Peggy Webber, who was younger than Jack Webb in real life, is still alive! She’s gotta be nearly a 100!

He was in a private detective series before Dragnet, titled Jeff Regan, Private Investigator, which wasn’t half bad.

I believe that it was Jack Webb that produced the Emergency TV series of the 1970’s, which was very popular when I was a kid. The actress that played the nurse, Dixie McCall, had been previously married to him. Even though they were divorced, they remained amicable, which was why he gave her a decent part in the series.

Peggy was also showed up on the Dragnet TV series as well as Adam 12 and Emergency. She'll be 95 this year.

Jack had a lot of TV series he was associated with. The entire Mark VII Limited family belonged to Webb while he was alive.

You can also find the entire radio series on archive.org. I've listened to most if not all of them. They're great shows.

Cool. Didn’t know that Peggy Webber was in the tv series as well.

The 1987 Dragnet parody film, featuring Dan Aykroyd, was a hoot!
