With the recently revelations of his campaign being in touch with Russian intelligence, Trump needs to release his tax information to show that he has not been compromised by Russia. If he is being influenced by Russia, and his tax information could easily help clear this up, then action must be taken.
Refusal to do so is an implication of guilt. We cannot have a President who is a puppet of the Russian government.

The FBI isn't investigating his tax returns. No one is. Republicans are blocking the release of them and investigations. If Trump is getting financial backing from Russia, like some believe, this could destroy the Republican party for backing a Manchurian candidate.
Or it could be nothing at all.

There are several reasons why the President is requested to show his tax returns. And it's elevated for Trump because he has business ties all over the world. Now he has displayed right here in America, why he should release them.
1 If he is paying his taxes. We have already seen that he hasn't been paying his federal taxes.
2 What countries that he has business and to what capacity.
3 What those businesses are. The President is ammune to conflicts of interest but it is against the law to accept gifts from foreign countries and leaders.
4 Does he owe money to any of these countries? If he owes money to a country, he might give that country preferential treatment.
5 Charitable donations. Trump has bragged about the millions of dollars he has donated. His returns will verify that
6 taxation rate. To verify he is paying taxes at the correct rate.
7 income. Verification of his income. Trump has been bragging about his success and his wealth. His returns will verify that.
