I'm finding it a bit funny that the Variety article made no mention of the fact that Sam and Kristen had previously worked together in 'Snow White and The Huntsman'.
When it comes to Kristen Stewart six degrees of separation, one would be hard pressed to find anyone equal to you Carved, not even someone of Justin Kroll of
The Hollywood Reporter's stature.
One of the first things that came to mind after hearing this very welcome news is: Will Sam Claflin be Kristen's onscreen love interest in CA? I say this because both of these actors are exceptional when it comes on romantic chemistry. We both know of the plethora of examples in Kristen's case which we've spoke of in great detail on this board. So instead, I thought I should mention instances where Claflin clearly demonstrates this with several of Hollywood's leading ladies.
While Sam wasn't Jennifer Lawrence's main squeeze in "The Hunger Games", he did flirt with her on more than one occasion in this film franchise. His star-crossed love affair with Emilia Clarke in "Me Before You" definitely tugged at my heartstrings. He falls for a married woman played by Gemma Arterton, in a far from conventional love triangle, in "Their Finest". He has a twisted romance with Olivia Cooke in "The Quiet Ones". A dysfunctional sexual relationship with Rachel Weisz, in "My Cousin Rachel". If there is such a thing as finding your soul mate, which was based on a true story BTW, Claflin did so with Shailene Woodley in "Adrift". And like you mentioned, he had a romantic moment with Kristen Stewart in "Snow White and the Huntsman", although technically this doesn't count as it was Ravenna pretending to be William--although of course it was really Claflin who kissed the fairest one of them all, played by the best actress of her generation, Kristen Stewart, thank you very much.
But here's one additional example, IMO, which tops them all in terms of Sam Claflin having credible chemistry with his onscreen love interest and charming persona: "Love, Rosie", where Sam costars with Lily Collins. I was so impressed by Collins' performance, and Claflin's for that matter, that I put together an edit showcasing clips from some of her best scenes in this film:
