More on Against All Enemies

Yesterday, Deadline posted a most interesting and informative article on Against All Enemies.
Here are some of the highlights ...

Vince Vaughn & More Join Kristen Stewart In Jean Seberg Thriller 'Against All Enemies' -- Cannes

Against All Enemies, the political thriller that stars Kristen Stewart as iconic actress Jean Seberg, has added key cast components. Vince Vaughn, Zazie Beetz (Deadpool 2, Atlanta), Yvan Attal (Munich) and Stephen Root (Get Out) are now all on board for the Benedict Andrews-directed film.

Along with Stewart -- also at Cannes as a member of the festival's competition jury -- Deadline previously revealed the cast includes Jack O'Connell, Anthonie Mackie, Margaret Qualley and Colm Meany. Filming is set for June in Los Angeles.

Seberg, an American actress who spent half her life in France, was a darling of the French New Wave. Because of her political and romantic involvement with civil rights activist Hakim Jamal (Mackie), she was also a target of the FBI's attempts to disrupt, discredit and expose the Black Power movement. O'Connell plays the ambitious FBI agent assigned to surveil her, only to find their fates dangerously interwoven.

Vaughn is set to play Carl Kowalski, the FBI agent in charge of the investigation, who is not afraid of bending the rules to his advantage. Root plays Seberg's longtime agent, Walt Breckman. French star Attal will play the iconic novelist Romain Gary, who was married to Seberg at the time.

Against All Enemies has attracted top creative collaborators including Academy Award-nominated director of photography Rachel Morrison (Mudbound) and Academy Award-nominated costume designer Michael Wilkinson.

So filming begins next month in L.A., eh? Cool. I had previously read that they will also be filming in Montreal, which, I'm assuming, will forego the need to travel to France to film there.

Meanwhile, it's nice to see that at least one of the projects that Kristen is attached to is progressing. I say this because it sure seems that Charlie's Angels has been stuck in rewrite purgatory for far too long. Also, I sure expected that Underwater would get a summer release, but we have yet to hear anything about when that might happen. For a film with a reported $60 million budget, I'm quite surprised that there has been no news whatsoever.

Finally, I do believe that it's only fitting and proper that I close this post with my Kristen/Jean music video ...

Oh yeah, almost forgot -- speaking of music videos, I redid my Scars on 45 'Runaway' music video because I wanted to have photos of the band in it rather than photos of Kristen. For those interested, you can watch it here ...

Yeah, Charlie's Angels seems to be on a long track to getting going. But hopefully it gets going though as I think it'll be a fun film for the actors and audiences, as the previous movies were that.

For Underwater it will be released in Fall TJ confirmed it as fan sent him message on instagram and on May 3rd it had screenings and the reaction of the people were very positive they also said that most if the special effect and music is not done so i guess that why it's taking so much time. I think in the coming weeks we will get news.

Regarding Charlie's Angels yeah i agree it's taking a lot of time but last thing i heard it will film in summer so hopefully 🙏🙏

Thanks for that Underwater update, Mody. Nice to hear of the positive reaction to the test screening despite the fact that most of the special effects have yet to be completed.

Man, it sure seems that we'll be seeing a few Kris flicks this fall, which is welcome news indeed. Afterall, 'Lizzie' gets released on September 14th, and although it will be a limited release on a platform basis, it should hopefully arrive here in South Florida sometime in the fall. Then there's 'Underwater,' which, given it's $60 million budget, will definitely get a wide release. Finally, there's 'JT Leroy,' which I'm now predicting (maybe 'guessing' is a better word) will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and have a December (aka awards season) release.

Yeah, I thought I'd heard something about Charlie's Angels to start shooting though I didn't know if I got that mixed up with other of her films. She actually has a few projects in the works.

Mody, thanks for the info. Good to know when Underwater
will be out. It's taken a while but that's how things go. That sounds like an interesting film and role for her, a thriller/action type role.

Welcome!! YEAH the official plot said that something is with them. And also whoever saw it said it had some horror aspects and a great thriller. And that it is good fun popcorn movie and i am so ecxited for that

reply

Not sure how trustworthy T.J. Miller's word is considering he was recently arrested for "calling in a fake bomb threat while aboard a train last month" according to Indiewire: www.indiewire.com/2018/05/x-force-tj-miller-deadpool-2-ryan-reynolds-1201960586/

I guess we'll soon find out whether or not T.J. confabulated the fall theatrical release date when official info comes out. This is unfortunate as I considered T.J. to be the next best thing about Deadpool after Ryan Reynolds. I'm wondering if this will have a negative impact on box office revenue for Underwater as he has also been accused of sexual assault. Ever since the Me Too movement, Hollywood is taking sexual misconduct seriously while the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice take terroristic threats of this particular nature very seriously.

While this is highly speculative, could it be possible that all of T.J. Miller's scenes will be edited out and reshot using another actor in his stead, as the reason why this film won't be released this summer? This might not be much of a stretch considering Ridley Scott decided to cut Kevin Spacey out from his film "All the Money in the World" after sexual misconduct allegations surfaced, requiring Scott to reshoot Spacey's scenes using Christopher Plummer in his place. While the critics gave this film mostly positive reviews, it bombed at the box office. I myself thought Plummer did an admirable job in his role as billionaire J.P. Getty and was very much taken in by the engrossing storyline, as the underlying moral premise of this film is very similar to that of the screenplay I'm currently working on.

I assume the studio may be considering doing this. Expensive yes, but the film will very likely be more difficult to market and to attract audiences if they keep Miller in.

Miller's getting into hot water with the DHS and DOJ in connection with the Amtrack bomb threat incident wasn't the first time he had a run-in with law enforcement as a year-and-a-half ago, he was arrested and imprisoned by LAPD for allegedly assaulting an Uber car driver in Los Angeles. Kinda ironic that he's a stand-up comedian and portrays mostly comedic roles in the feature films he stars in when he appears to be a hot head, predisposed towards violence and predatory behavior in real life. If he was a lead actor I highly doubt he would be cast in any films as he fits the description of box office poison to a tee. But because he is cast in supporting roles, perhaps that is why he is still able to catch a break.
