Movies and TV show thread

I'm starting this thread so we can share movies and TV shows we've seen. Tell how we liked or didn't like, share favorites, etc.

I recently saw The Accountant with Ben Affleck, Anna Kendrick. I knew little about it so didn't know what to expect, and I liked it a lot.

Also saw The Revenant , Leonardo DiCaprio. Good movie, I liked it. It was a story of survival and revenge which I felt was done well. Also I liked the portrayal of rugged early frontier life in N. America.

The last movie I saw was BLLWH, which I enjoyed. Steve Martin and the actress playing the love interest needed replacing. I finally gave up The Walking Dead, poor Glen. I planning to see Fences next week.

I not a big fan of Anna Kendrick, see makes odd movie choices. I rarely go to see comedies, so I don't see many of her movies.

I saw Speak again a few days ago. It reminded me of how young Kristen was and looked in that movie. She did a great job with tough subject matter for so young. She was only thirteen.

I have to put The Revenant and The Accountant on my Netflix queue. I want to see both of them and didn't get a chance to see them in the theater.

I just watched The Free State of Jones and liked it a lot. The violence was graphic, but it was necessary to understand the character's decisions. It wasn't gratuitous. I also learned some new things about The Civil War and Mississippi. Saw The Magnificent 7 and it was just ok to me.

The next movie I'm watching is American Honey. I've only heard good things. I like the cast, too.

I finally sat down and watched a few episodes of "Stranger Things." It's ok. I'm not quite as into it as others seem to be. But, I'll keep watching.

For television, I have not seen spit since Red John finally got what he deserved on The Mentalist. For movies, I saw Magnificent 7, as well. I will say the weakest link was Luke Grimes. Did not like Haley Bennett in Hardcore Henry but she a little better in this and The Girl On The Train.

I watch pretty much every film worth watching by the time it comes out on video--so this would be a good way of narrowing down my list--which is comprised of films released on Blu-ray/DVD during the past year that weren't blockbusters nor did they receive any major awards recognition--and yet I was pleasantly surprised by how much enjoyed watching them:

The Finest Hours
Eye in the Sky
Midnight Special
Experimenter
Deepwater Horizon
Blood Father
The Shallows
The Man Who Knew Infinity
Free State of Jones
The Infiltrator
Nerve
Triple 9
13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi
The Nice Guys
Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk
Cafe Society
Equals
10 Cloverfield Lane
Eddie the Eagle
Survivor
The Walk

Every year I seem to watch fewer and fewer movies, in an actual movie theater. If I ever get around to putting together a good home theater, I would never leave home.

I do want to see Deep Water Horizon, The Finest Hour and Silence.

If you enjoy watching disaster films, I believe you'll like Deep Water Horizon and The Finest Hours. Sully was another good disaster film, but because it did exceedingly well at the box office, I did not include it on my list.

Even though the critics consensus on Rotten Tomatoes says that Silence "stands among the director's (Scorsese) finest works," this film, to the dismay of many, failed to receive an Oscar nom despite an expanded field for Best Picture. So it sure looks as though this is the biggest snub in this category this awards season.

I'm gonna list two films I really liked from a few years ago that I recently saw on cable.

The first is St. Vincent (no reference to Kristen's love from last year) with Bill Murray, Melissa McCarthy and Naomi Watts.

Great performances by all in this comedy/drama.

Here's Bill Murray singing Dylan's Shelter From the Storm in the film's closing credits ...

The second is People Like Us with Chris Pine and Elizabeth Banks, which I felt had an intriguing storyline.
