Her prudery betrayed her character in Penny Dreadful

This season it was hugely apparent, after a blood soaked orgy she sits among the other clearly naked characters with the bedsheets neatly covering herself. Not to mention the obvious cuts to body doubles since the show began. Such modesty is the antithesis of her character. took me right out of that scene.

Why take the role if you are unable to commit to the depravity of the part? Why not stay in network TV where they are forced to adhere to such unrealistic puritanical standards?

In any case, I hope a day will come when most women don't feel the need to be chained to subjective ideas such as modesty, respect, class, etc. Usually used to convince them they need to hold themselves to higher standards then men. Much like her character, I hope she can break free of these male created concepts.

Great performance though, she killed it in the penultimate episode.
